INTBU 330 - Introduction to African Society, Commerce and Resources


This course is designed to give students a historical and contemporary overview of the political, economic and sociocultural structures found across sub-Saharan Africa, particularly with regard to the Bantu peoples, the most predominant sociolinguistic and ethnic category of people on the African Continent. The common philosophical themes of the Bantu peoples and “survival skills” in Kiswahili, the major language of Africa and the Bantu. A discussion of major cities, production areas, industries and natural resources across sub-Saharan Africa will be presented and incorporated as part of the comparison and contrast of Bantu societies by geographical region.
